On my bedside table is my favorite picture of Mama standing barefoot on tierra brillante under a looming rojo sangrante tree with me in her arms. How proud she seemed back then at my La Mancha; a hereditary birthmark on my right arm. I am her perfect likeness in every way but one. My eyes were bright blue and did not belong on the face bequeathed to me by my indigenous ancestors.
